From 1955, my father Robert S. Taylor was the sole U.S. importer of Sperrhake harpsichords, providing more than 500 harpsichords and clavichords to lovers of Baroque and other music. In the 1970s, I joined the family harpsichord rental and maintenance business and, upon my father’s death in 1987, took over. Although Sperrhake closed shop many years ago, I remain available for advice, repairs, and some proprietary parts. Please contact me with any questions.
(A note about opinions you may see on the Internet claiming that factory-made harpsichords are of lesser quality… While that may be true for a particular factory, it is not true for factory-made instruments in general. For example, think of Martin guitars, which are made in a factory but whose dedicated craftspeople have been trained across generations. Similarly, this harpsichord – from the Sperrhake factory in Passau, Germany – is a high-quality instrument made by craftspeople with decades of experience in their craft and pride in their work.)
